Adrienne Katz has extensive experience of working both nationally and with local authorities. She has carried out evaluations with children and young people ranging in age from 6-22. Evaluations employ a range of methods: qualitative, quantitative, workshops, drama, music and debates, focus groups and interviews. The findings can be delivered in a wide choice of formats. Youthworks is able to put together the right team of researchers for a particular evaluation.
Youthworks is currently undertaking an evaluation of the Make a Noise Anti-Bullying Programme for Internet Matters and Toot Toot, now in its second year. Funded by DfE. The programme offers an electronic reporting tool. initial training for schools and online resources.
Adrienne Katz is the external evaluator for Expect Respect – an Equalities programme in Sussex Coast College funded by HEFCE 2017/8. There is a focus on harassment and consent.

1. How do services respond when it’s an online issue?
A needs assessment of the way services for children respond to online issues or cases with an online safety component, for a local authority, Adrienne Katz & Cathy Street. Published 2017.
2. What does good safeguarding look like in primary schools?
Youthworks worked in partnership with NSPCC for the Office of the Children’s Commissioner to identify good practice in safeguarding and child protection in primary schools.
3. Do complaints services work for young people?
Youthworks worked with research group Cernis to evaluate young people’s experience of complaints services in mental and sexual health services for adolescents. A commission for the Office of the Children’s Commissioner.
4. Understanding young people’s experiences of Homophobia
Youthworks served as the external evaluator for the Reach project for the Charity EACH. This Lottery funded project worked with young people to identify and address homophobia in rural areas and the West of England.
Previous Work includes:
Islington and You
Consulting one quarter of the pupils in the borough on safety, journey to school, bullying, gangs and weapon carrying; drug awareness, attitudes to school and experience of learning and extra curricular activities. Assessing the effectiveness of the borough.
An evaluation of the Islington Multi Agency Intensive Prevention team for young people. Staff, professionals and young people were interviewed.
An evaluation of the Hackney YOT
Exploring the experiences of young people in the YOT service.
Young People’s Sexual Health Services
A small evaluation of the Birmingham PCT service for young people’s sexual health.
Connexions – Evaluating the extent to which the services could evidence youth participation and client satisfaction in 33 London boroughs.
Young Barnet Connects
Evaluating the Connexions service and students’ experiences of mainstream and alternative learning. Focus on vulnerable and ‘hard to reach’ groups and interrupted learners. In depth interviews with over 400 young people. Undertaken for Connexions and Barnet College.
North London Connects (Enfield, Haringey, Waltham Forest and Barnet.)
•Analysis of services available to young people across the North London Connexions partnership.
•Produced searchable CD directory.

Waltham Forest and Redbridge: Wassup?
Assessing attitudes to health and experiences of using services related to health. Qualitative and quantitative. 1036 young people. This also included community issues and explored ethnic groups’ perceptions of safety and how they get on with one another.
When Parents Part
A three year programme of work funded by the Strengthening Families Grant. The views and experiences of children and young people whose parents’ had parted were gathered and analysed. Outputs include: A research paper and a DVD resource which is designed to make parents aware of the concerns expressed by children in the course of this programme. Currently this DVD is in use by CAFCSS and Relate in a mediation programme with parents.
A data collection programme comparing year on year data establish the extent to which young people are receiving the offer on the 14-19 Learner Entitlement. One to one and group interviews integrated with data collected by Greenwich based on a questionnaire developed by our research team and compared for two years.
